The Avengers franchise has finally reached the conclusion of an epic saga that spanned 11 years and 22 movies. With the Avengers: Endgame, its opening weekend is speculated to amass a record that could salvage this year’s blockbuster.

Before we continue, it is only apt that we warn you. This video will have spoilers sprinkled here and there. Proceed with caution. You have been warned.

Indeed, the fans will come out of the theater with mixed emotions. Nostalgia for an epic cinematic journey that has spanned their childhood to adulthood. Sadness for the characters that we won’t ever see on the big screen again (pretty much like what we felt when Hugh Jackman hung his claws as X-Men’s Logan). Happiness for the possibility of budding superheroes in the potential subsequent films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans are quick to notice that the Endgame film is different from the previous films. Unlike the previous MCU films where fans are treated to some glimpses of what is in store for us in the next installment of the Avengers franchise through mid- and post-credit scenes, there is no such thing like that in this latest film. Even when fans waited until the lights turned back on in the theater, the only thing that they’ve watched is the post-credit where Marvel paid tribute to all the members of the cast and crew - just like any other movie’s post-credit out there. No date at the shawarma place next block. No recruitment scene at a night bar.

But! There is one thing that definitely stands out from this credit roll. For someone who sat through the credit roll in the hopes of seeing a mid- and post-credit scene, what we saw - and felt! - is a sign-off ceremony instead.

A Sign-Off Ceremony

Marvel fans have been bombarded with news about the original Avengers leaving the MCU after the Endgame installment even before the theatrical release of the said film. Robert Downey, Jr and Chris Evans both confirmed that they are going to hang their respective superhero suits once Endgame finishes. However, they aren’t the only ones who are leaving.

When the credits rolled, the actors playing an Avengers character naturally received their due credit with their name on the screen, a suitable clip of their heroics displayed at the background. However, it soon became apparent that things are different with the six pioneering Avengers. Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey, Jr. were in for another type of tribute during the credits roll. Aside from the clips playing in the background, their names were silvery embossed. Each of them left their signature on the silver screen as well when their names appeared. Not only that, their characters, all suited up, appear on the screen as well. Truthfully, it was such a unique credit roll that you can’t help feeling that something was up.

If you think about it, it is indeed similar to a sign-off ceremony. Think about graduating from something really memorable. Before you leave, it is symbolic to leave your ‘signature’ for it. It was all like that.

Whether these six Avengers will appear as a cameo or in a solo prequel Marvel film in Phase 4, that is still up in the air as MCU has been quite secretive of their future endeavors. But what we do know is that we will definitely miss these six pioneer Avengers. Nevertheless, we are still looking forward to the future of the MCU. We hope that they won’t disappoint the predecessors who’ve built the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and instead hold up the legacy that they are succeeding to.
