Roy G Biv
Once Upon A Time there lived a very colorful character, Roy G Biv. You could always tell his feelings by looking at him. He is every color in the rainbow. He could be RED filled with Love, ORANGE filled with Energy, YELLOW filled with Happiness, GREEN filled with Life, BLUE filled with Peace, INDIGO filled with Power, or VIOLET like Royalty. The magical moment came to me while working on a painting using the color wheel to mix and match color. I thought, wouldn’t it be grand to teach the color wheel through a story form? I realized I needed to create a character artists of all ages could enjoy, one character in many forms. What fun, thus ROY G BIV was brought to life.
Next step was to see if the book had any merit in the art world. Being a performance art teacher myself, I asked an art colleague and grade school art teacher what she thought of the idea. Her advice was to write and publish a children’s book on understanding the color wheel. So I was off to a great start and have enjoyed every minute of the process.
This is the first book in a series of five (so far). This introduces you to the rainbow prism of primary colors, red, yellow, blue, and the secondary colors, orange, green, violet, created by mixing the primary colors. Red plus yellow make orange, yellow plus blue make green, blue plus red make violet. The amount mixed with different colors creates tint, tone, and shade. There is a glossary in the book to introduce each color character and finally a test on the book. All the answers are yes to keep the experience positive. The book presents four ways to remember who and what each color and character represents – the book, glossary, test, and song.
Roy G Biv loves to sing this song and you can follow along online.
All the colors you will ever need to paint your pallet with color seed.
The color RED comes from the heart. It’s sent down from above. It’s warm, it’s bright, it’s so much fun. It’s known as the color of Love
The color ORANGE is Energy. And I hope you are aware when orange is on the color wheel energy is always there.
YELLOW is fun. It’s a big wide smile, a great big happy face. Warm and fuzzy feelings live in the yellow place.
The color of GREEN is all about Life. You can find it everywhere. Think in many shades of green and life can take you there.
BLUE is when you’re Peaceful, a cloud that you can share. This cloud can make you happy. Blue will take you there.
Royal Violet when combined with BLUE is known as INDIGO. It’s very bold and vibrant. It has a power glow.
RED, BLUE, and YELLOW primary colors oh so real. VIOLET, GREEN, and ORANGE are secondary on the color wheel. BLACK is BLACK and WHITE is WHITE. There’s not much else to say, but mix the two together and they become a neutral gray.
You can paint them straight of mix them up and you’ll learn to paint with a rainbow brush. Create paintings with a magical feel using all the colors on the color wheel.
So I was off to a great start and have enjoyed every minute of the process.
